Speech disorder is an umbrella term for any one of the following: articulation disorder, phonological disorder, apraxia of speech, fluency disorder (stuttering), or voice disorder. Speech is the verbal manner by which we express language.
Speech disorders can affect both children and adults and have a wide range of causes. Depending on the type and severity of the disorder, speech disorders can seriously impact the communication ability and social interaction of an individual. Speech disorders can be addressed through therapy with a certified speech-language pathologist.
